Commenting Policy

One of the benefits of an online news source is the great potential for community interaction. Like most modern websites, LocalOnlineNews.TV offers the ability for our readers and viewers to post comments on stories that interest them. Good conversations and debate can be productive for the community. However, sometimes things can get out of control and lead down a path that devalues this important feature.

While we were initially moderating every comment that was posted at LocalOnlineNews.TV, the task became difficult for us and our users. Comments will now be posted immediately. If you notice something inappropriate before we do, please flag it using the link embedded in each comment.

Here is what we are doing to ensure comments lead to a productive (and not destructive) community debate:

  1. We reserve the right to determine what is appropriate for our community. That means we will delete comments that we deem to be objectionable and may even ban you from posting here.
  2. What constitutes objectionable?  Objectionable content can include (but is not limited to) the following:  personal attacks, libelous or slanderous language directed toward a private citizen or company,  and other comments that do not lead to a productive exchange of ideas or debate.   Ultimately the determination of what is not appropriate is up to our editorial team.
  3. Comments advertising a business or commercial service are not permitted.  If you’d like to advertise on LocalOnlineNews.TV, please contact us and someone will be in touch with more information.
  4. Remember that this is a public forum and we are very good at search engine optimization.  This means that once a comment is posted it is indexed by Google and other search engines and is instantly accessible from anywhere in the world.
  5. You own your words. That means if you say or write something that is considered slanderous or libelous you could be subject of legal action even if you don’t use your real name. We log the originating IP address of every comment on this site.
  6. Our commenting engine is powered by Disqus – a third party provider.  Please see their use and privacy policy if you have questions about how they may use your information.
  7. By commenting we will add your email address to our new content email list.  If you don’t wish to be added to the list, you may unsubscribe when you receive communications from us.

If you have questions about this policy, please contact us.
