Essex Park and Recreation Thanks Pumpkin Festival Participants and Sponsors

We received the following note from Mary Ellen Barnes, Essex Recreation Program Coordinator:

Keeping with tradition severe weather was predicted to smash the Ivoryton Village Pumpkin Festival. However, this year we tricked Mother Nature and treated over 1000 guests to a rain date! The 9th Annual Ivoryton Village Pumpkin Festival, traditionally held the Saturday before Halloween, was celebrated with a record 315 carved pumpkins on Sunday, October 25th.

On behalf of the Town of Essex Park and Recreation Department I would like to thank all of our amazing volunteers. Our dedicated volunteers showed up ready for to work on Sunday morning. Their commitment was critical to the festival’s success. I would also like to recognize our student volunteers. There were over 20 students who carved pumpkins, moved hay bales, served popcorn, and even provided not too scary entertainment in our haunted trail, their help was greatly appreciated.

2009 Ivoryton Pumpkin Festival PumpkinsI would also like to thank all our local businesses, organizations and groups whose donations made this event possible. In addition, there were many residents who answered our challenge and carved over 300 pumpkins. Our 9th Annual Festial broke the record with a total of 315 pumpkins. It is with your participation that makes the Pumpkin Festival a true community event.

Mark your calendars for next year’s event. The 10th Annual Ivoryton Village Pumpkin Festival will be held on the Saturday before Halloween, October 30th, 2010. The “Rain Date” will be October 31st. If you are interested in volunteering for the 2010 Pumpkin Festival, please contact the Town of Essex Park and Recreation Department, at 767-4340.
